John Hord has a Busy Schedule of Musical Activities this Fall!
John Hord reports that The Hord Consort had a very successful first concert of the season on August 28 at Fresno Pacific University; this was the first concert in the University's Artist Series. Repertoire was chosen with consideration of August 28 as the anniversary of the birth of Goethe and the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington, D.C. The program included works by Liszt, Fauré, Brahms, Schumann, CPE Bach, Meyerbeer, Devienne, Alexandre Georges, and three of the Old American Songs (II) set by Aaron Copland. The Hord Consort also performed October 14 in a program of sonatas for flute and piano by Hummel and Muczyinski, Liszt's Grande Galop chromatique, Bolcom's Vers le silence, and various songs and arias.
On September 14, John played for a fashion show he organized for L'Alliance Française de Fresno. The program was entitled, "French Influenced Fashion through the Ages." Terry Estabrook joined John for performances of songs by Georges, Offenbach, Cole Porter, and Gershwin. As program chair for L'Alliance, John has instituted a series of monthly programs for the group.
On October 18, John and Terry will perform Civil War songs for the annual Civil War Revisited.
On November 19, John will host Kevin McMillan and Gabriel Dobner, both of James Madison University, for a concert at Fresno City College. Liszt Society members and others who have attended annual ALS festivals will recall the McMillan/Dobner team's performances as highlights of the concert schedule.
