Newest ALS Chapter at The Ohio State University Celebrates Liszt's Birthday!
The newest chapter of the American Liszt Society presented two days of activities on Sunday - Monday, October 18 - 19, 2015, in commemoration of Liszt's 204th birthday. President of the Ohio Chapter, Caroline Hong, announced the Chapter's "Inaugural Event." Activities began with OSU faculty musicologist Professor Arved Ashby, who gave a pre-concert talk entitled "The Two Liszts" and led a panel discussion. This was followed by a concert featuring James Tocco, University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, performing the complete Harmonies poétiques et religieuses.
At 6:30 p.m., there was a piano recital featuring Ohio ALS officers and artists including Robert Shannon and Haewon Song, Oberlin Conservatory; Eugene Alcalay, Azusa Pacific University (formerly University of Wisconsin-Platteville); Ryan Behan, The Ohio State University; Tyrone Boyle, Ballet-Met; Michael Boyd, University of Toledo; R. Kent Cook, Illinois Wesleyan University; Mark De Zwaan, Indiana University; Matthew Gianforte and Meeyoun Park, Murray State University; Joel Hastings, Florida State University; and Victor Yeh, Cleveland Institute of Music.
On Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m, guest pianist Dr. Eugene Alcalay of Azusa Pacific University, presented a piano master class. All events took place in Weigel Auditorium on the OSU campus. For more information, please go to Franz Liszt Birthday Celebration at OSU.
